The Italian Tourist Railway has made your dream possible. An excellent gesture to bring back those golden memories back to the current generations.
The volunteer association called the “F.T.I. – Ferrovie Turistiche Italiane“ or Italian Tourist Railway was found around twenty years ago. This association was able to convince the Italian railway to operate a short rail line for tourism between Palazzolo sull’ Oglio and the southern end of Lake Iseo, also called Lake Sebino.
The station in the Lake is called the Paratico-Sarnico. It was inaugurated back in 1876. This station connected the Lake Iseo with the Palazzolo Sull’ Oglio station.
This historic train route through Palazzolo sull’ Oglio is now a great success because of the connectivity it has with the major cities like Milano & Bergamo. In fact, this is the station where you will witness the removal of the steam engine from the front and is attached to the rear before the

oneof such navigation that was operated until it was stopped around the year 1999.
Even though the passenger traffic was stopped way back in 1966, the goods traffic was active until 1999. After a long fight that started in 1991, the first attempt to start this route for public tourists was done in 1994, and in just 9 weekends, they had around 4000 passengers.
In summary, it is a fun-unlimited journey with a memorable trip to the Lake Iseo on the Historic Train called the Sebino Express.

What to expect
What else to expect? Of course a lots of fun!
Yes, the fun starts the very moment you see the train on its platform. The antique look of the cabin and the first sight of the black beauty will bring loads of happiness in your face, for sure.
Do not be over
Because, there will be plenty of black smoke, out of the engine which will easily find you through those open windows.
So, to be safer, I would recommend taking something in the middle of the train. But again, do not choose the last one. Why?
When you reach the station Palazzolo sull’ Oglio, the engine will be removed from the front and attached to the back. Yes, from here the train will go in the
How did we make it?
We reached Milan central at 7:30 am and the train was waiting for us with those puffing black smoke from its head. We were least bothered to get a seat, and we went straight to the front of that steam engine. And for the next 10-15 minutes, we were enjoying the different views of this black beauty 740-278 train.
The engine drivers were busy filling the engine with the coal, which was full up to the

The windows on the cabin were also very different from those in today’s modern trains. These windows allowed us to lower it almost fully, and people can peep outside to have those fantastic views.
Not to say about those people who do anything for the picture.
Did I tell you that is how we figured out how easy the smoke can reach you into the cabin?
In today’s train safety standards, it would be a strict no to have such open windows. But then we are in pre-world war train. So, maybe those days people were more organi

Without any exception, everyone gets down from here, and head straight to the steam engine for more photo opportunity. No one seemed to want to go to the lake, and everyone was busy posing and capturing the moment.
When the whole world was busy near the engine, here is yours truly, relaxing near the carriage.
While the people with the special packages rushed to the Lake, we spent some more time in clicking some memorable pictures.
Then we left to the lake along the abandoned track as you see in the below picture.
This track which was once used for loading the goods into the tugboat in olden days, extends till the lake.
And the end point offers an irresistible view from here.
This is the southern part of the Lake Iseo. And this place is well maintained with full of shops and restaurants.

What’s a trip without Gelato?
Yes, you are right. We found that this one Gelato shop right at the end of the Sarnico bridge was overcrowded. So, when someplace is crowded, it does mean something is good there. Am I right?
So, we just went with the instinct and enjoyed the tasty gelato!
